2011 Southwest Elk Rut was DULL!!! Why?

Dull!  Lackluster! Weak!

All pretty much sum up most of the 2011 Southwest Elk Rut.  We have talked with folks hunting private, public & tribal land in New Mexico & Arizona; they all pretty much agreed. We personally spent 30+ days in the field, from the last week of August to the end of September.

This was something we witnessed on SEVERAL occasions!  Elk & Deer were eating Cedar/Juniper berries more than usual for this time of year(at least it appeared that way to us).  It was very obvious that the grazing feed was not consistent or nearly as good as it was last year.

We believe the map to the right had something to do with it…
